Taiwanese gay men don’t have their own culture, so they’re appropriating the western gay culture but without the drag aspect. Drag culture just appeared about five years ago, and before that it was just about masculinity. Men feel like they need to be stocky or have bodies like western men to be acceptable. In Taiwan, we only have the history of fighting and resisting but we don’t have the history of defining ourselves, or defining our own culture. Also the government tends to erase gay culture and art. So we don’t have our own gay history, we don’t have a path to follow our culture and identity, so we copy from the western world. And Taiwan has been colonized by many countries, by Japan, China and Spain. So we tend to change ourselves, to adapt very quickly. Law enacted to loosen sex change condition over ID disorder

TOKYO, Japan - The House of Representatives votes unanimously on June 10 to revise legislation allowing people with gender identity disorder who have children to change their registered gender after their children reach adulthood. The House of Councillors also gave unanimous approval to the legislation last week.

Setagaya OKs transsexual's election bid with new gender

TOKYO, Japan - Aya Kamikawa (L), who was born a male but now lives socially as a female due to gender identity disorder (GID), files her candidacy for the April 27 Setagaya Ward assembly election with the ward's election administration committee on April 20. Kamikawa is the first person in Japan to register as an election candidate with a gender different from that listed in her official family registry.

Afghan women have started an online Twitter campaign to protest the Taliban's female dress code by posting photos with traditional clothes. The photos went viral with a hashtag: #DoNotTouchMyClothes. It all started with one photograph from Dr Bahar Jalali, a former history professor at the American University in Afghanistan. The photos, the hashtags and the viral online campaign soon became a global protest- where Afghan women were saying 'No' to the Taliban diktat on clothes.
